Step 1 - Making Choices training

Who is the Training for?

The training is directed at local disabled people and is part of a long-term vision to enable them to be more equal and effective participants in their community.

Aim

The training is a first step to enable disabled people to familiarise themselves with their local CDP or FRC, with a view to building capacity so that they can access community options that could effectively involve them to participate in an inclusive way in social, cultural and economic activities.

How long is the Training?

Ten weeks, one morning per week.

The Department of Social & Family Affairs

Outcomes of Training

  • Participants become aware of their local CDP/FRC and other resources within their community
  • Participants remain as a group to explore further training options, capacity building, possible development of disability group,
  • Participants join existing groups within the project or community.
  • CDPs and FRCs begin the process of making contact with local disabled people
