Seminars: Creating accessible community facilities for people with disabilities

Seminar Description

This seminar is designed to assist participants in using the DESSA accessibility guidelines ‘Creating Accessible Community Facilities for People with Disabilities’. It will address how equality legislation applies to community organisations and people with disabilities and will support participants in identifying practical actions for including people with disabilities within their projects.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of the seminar participants will:

  • have understanding of access issues including universal design;
  • be aware of legislation as it relates to access issues and people with disabilities;
  • feel confident to explore and identify ways in which community-based organisations can be more inclusive of people with disabilities.

Length:

This seminar takes from 3 to 4 hours.

Format and Methodology:

The seminar will consist of presentations, small group work, experiential learning activities and plenary discussions. Participants will use the guidelines ‘Creating Accessible Community Facilities for People with Disabilities’ during the course of the seminar.
